ode to a best friend by pandatails ode to a best friend by pandatails
I won't lie and say i didn't cry when i was sketching this out because i was thinking of my dog, but I watched The Fox and the Hound last week and the monologue that the Widow Tweed gave as she was driving Tod to the forest, hit me hard.

So the following text is from the movie and what i am using for insparation on this piece.

We met, it seems, such a short time ago
You looked at me - needing me so
Yet from your sadness
Our happiness grew
And I found out I needed you too

I remember how we used to play
I recall those rainy days
The fire's glow
That kept us warm
And now I find - we're both alone

Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart is a memory
And there you'll always be

My condolences for your dog.My granny cat going to have 15Yo next month, and i 'm scared to loose her.For your picture,so much emotion emanates from it.I love how Toothy tries to comfort him.Hiccup eyes are sad,but the way whose Tooth looks his friend is more sad than Hiccup tears.I love it.Your poem give me a knot in my throat.Nice poem too :meow: .

Love the softness of these lines. Have to ask, what's the setting you use for your brush tool to get soft lines like that? I can't figure it out for the life of me!

Oh man, that part of that movie makes me bawl every single stinking time I see it. So powerful! And your drawing really does the emotion justice. What did you have in mind for the reason for Hiccup's tears, out of curiosity?

Gorgeous drawing!

thank you so much for the understanding of this drawing.

the tears are just my own personal touch, i wanted to draw something that had a representation of the relationship me and my dog had, always there for you, never judges, can make you feel angry, sad, and happy but always loved, and finally coming tot the realization that your world became better the day you met.

That's sort of what I was figuring, but i was curious to see if there was a story in mind or not before I said so. Because yeah--what I love about the drawing is the way Toothless is just there. He, like we the viewer, may not know or understand exactly what's bothering Hiccup, but he will be there just the same, in any and every way he can be.

They are such sweet friends.

exactly right :)

when ever i would be having a crappy day, my dog would just come and put his head in my lap and look at me wagging his tail, and telling me, "don't worry it will be alright, now chase me!" lol

Awwwwwwww.....so sad. This is beautifully drawn. My dog died last year, a pet I had for 16 years, so stuff like this really does hit home. What you did is wonderful though. :)
